YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–The settlement of the Karabakh conflict is possible only by means of political negotiations and compromised solutions which would satisfy all conflicting parties. Such a settlement will contribute to the peaceful and stable development of Armenia and the entire region–Speaker of the Armenian National Assembly Karen Demirchian said at his meeting with the French delegation led by Chief Advisor to the French Foreign Minister Michel Fouche.
The speaker of the Armenian Parliament pointed out that he considers the meetings of the Armenian and Azeri presidents to be great progress in this matter. He highly appreciated France’s willingness to assist in the settlement of the conflict and the contributions of French Senate Speaker Christian Poncelet towards Armenia’s membership to the European Union.
Demirchian outlined the results of the Armenian parliamentary delegation’s visit to Germany during the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the German Bundestag.
Fouche assured Demirchian that his country is interested in the establishment of stability in the region and is willing to render all-out assistance in this process. He stressed the role of the parliamen’s as well as that of the European Parliament in solving regional conflicts and emphasized the importance of the participation of the countries of the region in the development and implementation of joint projects.
