One Nation One Culture Exhibition Opens At National Library

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–"The Armenian Diaspora has stimulated the development of Armenian culture–literature and sciences abroad," Library Director David Sargssian said during the opening of the "One Nation–One Culture" exhibition at the National Library of Armenia on September 23.

Foreign Armenian literature reached us sporadically up to now–but there is hope that–as a result of the Armenia-Diaspora conference–a structure will be set up to regulate the import of literature from Armenian communities abroad.

According to Director of the National Book Chamber of Armenia Hovhannes Bekmezian–the books put on display now had been "locked" for a long time. These books were considered dangerous literature and were accessible only through special connections. What is exhibited now is only 20-30 percent of the Armenian literature published abroad.

The "One Nation–One Culture" exhibition presents books–and essays by Western Armenian writers published early this century. Among such authors are Yervand Otian–Daniel Varuzhan–Siamanto–Petros Durian–and Diasporan writers Hamastegh–Vahram Hatchian–Vahe Oshakan–Sahan Shahnur and Henry Vernoy.
