YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–The acceptance of the Armenian genocide is linked to France–lecturer of the Yerevan State University Yervand Gasparian said at a conference entitled "Tolerance and Non-Violence in Human Rights" held on October 5 in Yerevan. Describing the genocide of Armenia’s as the biggest display of intolerance in the 20th century–he noted that thanks to a single package of documen’s compiled by the French government–the world learned that the genocide of Armenia’s was perpetrated in Turkey in 1915. According to Gasparian–the package included materials from Armenian sources–for instance–a report by the Constantinople Patriarch Zaven and documen’s from Arab sources–German’sources and documen’s of the Turkish opposition.
Head of the ethnography chair of the Yerevan State University Hranoush Kharatian noted the fact that in the last couple of years much has been said about the problem of poverty–however–the number of the poor is increasing. She believes that in this context human rights will not be an exception either–particularly–given the fact that currently in many countries a human life does not cost a cent and many people are starving. According to Kharatian–to avoid such situation it is necessary to take practical steps–and not keep speaking about some problems.
The conference was organized by the "Armenia-France" Society of the Armenian Society for Cultural Relations Abroad–the National Center for Democracy and Human Rights–the Armenian Center for Conflict Settlement and Foreign Ministry of Armenia.
