Conference Dedicated to YSU’s 80th Anniversary Held

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–A conference held in the building of the Academic Opera and Ballet Theater on October 6 was dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Yerevan State University.

Prime Minister Vazgen Sargsyan–stressing the role of the Yerevan State University in establishing the system of higher education in the republic–said that the University was a stepping stone for all other higher schools to be founded in the republic. "It was founded in the years of the first republic–and simultaneously–in heavy political conditions–an army was established," the prime minister added.

In his speech University Rector Radik Martirossian noted that YSU today is a full member of the International Association of Universities and the International Association of University Rectors and has cooperation agreemen’s with 74 universities and scientific centers in 25 countries of the world.

The conference was attended by President Robert Kocharian–National Assembly Chairman Karen Demirchian–Karabakh Parliament Speaker Oleg Yesayan–Locum Tenens Archbishop Nerses Pozapalian–as well as representatives of universities in Italy–Germany–Russia–France–Georgia and Uzbekistan.
