50 000 Demonstrate in Baku Over Nagorno Karabakh Dispute

MOSCOW–(Agence France Presse) About 50,000 people demonstrated in the Azeri capital Baku on Saturday against so-called Armenian involvement in Nagorno Karabakh–the Interfax agency reported.

Speakers called for the international community to recognize Armenia as the aggressor in the conflict–and denounced Russia for what they saw as its role backing Armenia in the dispute. They proposed cultural autonomy for the region.

Nagorno Karabakh is a predominantly Armenian region which broke away from Baku in 1988.

The two countries are set to continue talks at the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe summit in Istanbul on November 18-19.
