YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Armenia had its last encounter in the EURO 2000 qualifying rounds in Andorra against the local team. The Armenian footballers routed their opponents by scoring three unanswered goals despite one of their players’ being sent off the field 15 minutes before half time.
Armenia finished with 8 points with two wins and two draws to rank fifth in the Group 4 final standings.
The Group’s winner was decided in the Moscow and Paris matches. On Saturday night France beat Iceland 3-2 to top the Group and directly qualify for the EURO 2000 finals in the low countries.
Ukraine–who narrowly escaped from a defeat in a dramatic match in Moscow thanks to Andrey Shevchenko’s last minute goal–will now come up against another group’s second place winner in a knock-out match. Russia and Iceland finished third and fourth respectively.
