Recognition of Karabakh Necessary Says Human Rights Activist

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–The recognition of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic’s independence is a necessary element in any compromise plan; any other option will lead to tensions in the region–renowned human rights activist–President of the Independent Association for the Protection of Nagorno Karabakh’s Rights Vitaly Danilov said at an October 18 seminar.

Danilov stressed that a solution can’t be allowed based on the economic interests of great powers playing the oil card. He noted that Karabakh gained its independence in keeping with the international and constitutional law.

"The negotiating process on the recognition of Karabakh’s independence must be continued," he said–"although it is very difficult not to yield to provocations."

The seminar–arranged by the Association for the Protection of Nagorno Karabakh’s Rights within the framework of the CIS–and the International Congress for Human Rights within the framework of the OSCE–was attended by public and political figures and scientists.
