Benefits for Larger Families in Karabakh to Begin in 2000

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–To increase the birthrate and the number of large families in the Nagorno Karabakh Republic and improve the financial status of larger families–the Karabakh government adopted a new resolution providing benefits to larger families to be implemented starting in January–2000.

Accounts for special fixed deposits will be opened with the Karabakh State Bank–providing $700 for the third child in a family–$1,000 for the fourth; $1,000 for the fifth in Stepanakert and $1,500 in other regions; $2000 for the sixth and seventh; $2,500 for the eighth and ninth child; and $3,000 for the tenth. Each deposit is in effect until the child reaches the age of 18.

Also–when a family has at least four children–the state will provide finances for purchasing textbooks for each child. Privileges in electricity rates will also be provided.

In some regions–new accommodation will be provided to families with seven or more children. In case of having a tenth child a family will be provided with a car. Credits for agricultural works will also be allocated to such families.
