Armen Ter Sahakian Trial Postponed to November 1

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–According to witness David Kharatian–defendants in the Armen Ter-Sahakian trial Souren Haroutiunian–Alik Grigorian and Arshak Shukhian were incorporated with the Interior Ministry in March 1993 by the then Interior Minister Vano Siradeghian’s aide Tatul Safarian who acted on behalf of the Minister. The three had been employees of the Mashtots District Interior Department–Kharatian added at the October 19 court sitting. The witness went on to say that the aide had promised that the investigation would be continued at the Interior Ministry.

Kharatian–who was Head of the Mashtots District Interior Department in 1993–said that the order of the minister was an order irrespective of whether it was made verbally–in written form or through an aide. According to the case material–these three–brought to the police precinct on suspicion of car-jacking–were sent back to the Interior Ministry where they were later released.

Judge Gagik Petrossian said that all the witnesses in the case had been subpoenaed to court but some witnesses are now outside the country and others are reported to be not residing at the indicated places–while still others fail to appear in court for unknown reasons.

The court decided to postpone the trial until November 1 so as to ensure the presence of all witnesses.
