Agenda Set for National Ecclesiastical Assembly

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–A two-day session of the Supreme Religious Council chaired by Locum Tenens Archbishop Nerses Pozapalian ended in St. Etchmiadzin Friday.

The meetings discussed some organizational matters and approved the agenda for the National Ecclesiastical Assembly set for October 26 to 30. The assembly will elect the 132nd Catholicos of All Armenia’s.

The Supreme Religious Council decided to ask President Robert Kocharian to participate in the proceedings of the National Church Council and to deliver a speech.

Meanwhile–the Catholicosate of the Holy See of Cilicia announced that His Holiness Aram I–Catholicos of the Holy See of Cilicia–who has been invited to chair the election and anointing of the newly-elected Catholicos will arrive in Armenia after the elections to officiate the anointment process.

Aram I will be accompanied by a delegation of Cilician See leaders.

According to Etchmiadzin by-laws the Cilician See takes part in the National Ecclesiastical Assembly with two delegates–one lay and one cleric.

The Cilician See will be represented by Bishop Sebouh Sarkissian–Prelate of Kuwait and the Gulf and the chairman of the Lebanese Prelacy Executive Council Harutiun Samuelian.
