Judicial Proceedings On Siradeghian’s Case Postponed

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–At a Monday court session in connection with a criminal case instituted against chairman of the Armenian National Movement–parliament member Vano Siradeghian–the latter said that his defense counselor Serezha Shakhverdian was sent to a hospital because of a heart attack.

A possibility of another delay in the trial of Siradeghian again caused a wave of protests in the court-room. Representing the victim–Lawyer Mais Rafaelian noted that one should have expected such things from Siradeghian’s defense counselor–who "is weary of the life and everyday routine." He demanded that Shakhverdian’s clients as well as other defendants should take place behind bars. Victim Kim Balayan–for his part–suggested changing the preventive punishment against Siradeghian. The defendants also expressed their dissatisfaction with the delay in court proceedings–requesting that the part concerning Vano Siradeghian should be separated from the general case. The trial in connection with Siradeghian’s case has been put off twice: first–on the petition from Siradeghian–who requested a new defense counsel–and then on the petition of a new defense counselor–who requested to give him 40 days to get acquainted with the materials of the case.

The prosecution explained that because of differences between the defendants–the presence of Siradeghian’s defense counselor was necessary and decided to postpone the proceedings. Judge Razmik Tovmassian ruled to postpone the proceedings until October 29.
