Episcopal Council Discusses State Church Relationship

ETCHMIADZIN (Noyan Tapan)–A consultative meeting of the Episcopal Council was convened at St. Etchmiadzin on Monday. The meeting was co-chaired by Locum Tenens Archbishop Nerses Pozapalian–Armenian Patriarch of Jerusalem Archbishop Torgom Manoogian and Armenian Patriarch of Constantinople Archbishop Mesrob Mutafyan.

The meeting discussed state-church relations and some educational matters in connection with which the clergy attached high importance to teaching God’s Law and the history of the Armenian Church at secondary schools.

The meeting also heard reports made by the church committees on proposal formulation and preparation of the statute of the Armenian Apostolic Church. The reports were followed by a debate over the report on the activities of the Armenian Apostolic Church and the organization of its internal life presented by the Committee on Proposal Formulation. The meeting also had on its agenda issues like activities of the Supreme Spiritual Council and the Episcopal Council at the Holy See of St. Etchmiadzin.
