Gore Sends Message of Condolences

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Vice-President Al Gore sent a message to President Robert Kocharian expressing condolences on the tragic events in the meeting hall of the Armenian parliament:

"Dear President Kocharian:

"I was deeply saddened by today’s shocking and brutal attack on the Armenian Parliament. Please–extend my deepest condolences to the families of the victims.

"When I met with Prime Minister Sargsyan at the White House last month–he and I discussed your important and courageous efforts to achieve a just and durable peace in Nagorno Karabakh and to build a strong–democratic–and prosperous Armenia. I am certain that this attack will not weaken your commitment to–and the Armenian people’s support for–these goals. I share these goals and remain committed to helping Armenia complete its democratic transition and to strengthening the US-Armenian relationship.

"Again–please accept my sincere condolences on this tragic and senseless event. President Clinton and the American people share my outrage and are keeping you and your countrymen in our thoughts and prayers."
