The ambassador positively assessed steps taken by the army and voiced readiness of the US government to render assistance in promoting democratic processes in Armenia.
Armenia’s Minister of Defense–Lieutenant-General Vagharshak Haroutiunian sent messages to National Assembly Chairman Armen Khachatrian and Prime Minister Aram Sargsyan:
"Dear sirs,
"The dirty and foul crime committed in the meeting hall of the National Assembly on October 27 was a challenge to our state and people.
"Your assumption of the posts of National Assembly Chairman and Prime Minister is regarded by the Ministry of Defense as a display of high civil duty and courage at this time of hardship. Be firm and resolute. We are convinced that as National Assembly Chairman and Prime Minister you will remain loyal to the goals and programs of your predecessors Karen Demirchian and Vazgen Sargsyan.
"We wish you success and all the best in the name of a stronger and more prosperous Armenia–in the name of Armenia’s growth and security."
