YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Armenian President Robert Kocharian held a meeting November 10 with Rapporteur on Armenia of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Demetrio Volchich.
Volchich said the goal of his visit is to get acquainted with the latest developmen’s in Armenia. Volchich expressed confidence that the democratization of Armenia will be continued.
"Our goal is to give a political impetus and show that we are continuing cooperation with Armenia," he said. According to Volchich–the events on October 27 will not produce any impact on Armenia’s candidacy to the Council of Europe. In that connection the diplomat pointed out the importance of democratic processes in Armenia and the resumption of negotiations for the Karabakh settlement.
In his turn–Kocharian also said that the tragic events in the Parliament will not produce any impact on the democratic processes in Armenia and the policy pursued by the country’s authorities.
"The integration into the European structures remains our priority task," he stressed. The president said that democratization and market relations have no alternative–and the authorities’ determination to adhere to this policy is a guarantee of the irreversibility of the reforms.
Addressing the Karabakh settlement–Kocharian pointed out that the dialogue and steps towards the resumption of the negotiations will be continued.
The sides also addressed the problem of regional security. The president pointed out the importance of creating a common subregional security system.
