ANC Encourages Community Wide Support for Voter Registration Drive

GLENDALE–The Armenian National Committee of America – Western Region called upon the Armenian community Wednesday to actively participate in the "25,000 in 2000" voter registration campaign designed to increase the number of Armenian American registered voters in the Glendale–Burbank–Pasadena–Hollywood and North Hollywood areas.

The voter registration campaign–chaired by the Glendale City Councilman and former Chairman of the Glendale ANC Chapter–Rafi Manoukian–is a nonpartisan–grassroots initiative to encourage Armenian Americans to exercise their right to vote and participate in the political process.

A diverse mix of Armenian American community activists have already volunteered their services for this effort–including–Dr. Sahag Baghdassarian–Vasken Yardemian–Dr. Armine Hacopian–Vasken Yardemian–Aram Agdaian–Alice Petrossian–Peter Musurlian–Hamo Rostamian–Avo Donoyan–Zaven Sinanian Nancy Panossian and Hratch Karakashian. In addition–the group has enlisted the services of prominent political consultant Eric Hacopian to provide guidance and support for the initiative.

"The ANC will continue encouraging Armenian Americans to both register to vote and turnout in unprecedented numbers for the important 2000 elections," stated ANCA-WR Executive Director Vicken Sonentz-Papazian.

"Those candidates–irrespective of party affiliation–who best understand and advance issues of concern to the Armenian American community will clearly benefit most from this unparalleled project," concluded Sonentz-Papazian.
