Orphans Receive “Boxes of Friendship” Presents

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–In 1999 the Armenian Society of Red Cross jointly with the American Red Cross implemented the "Boxes of friendship" program.

The boxes of friendship are collected on funds provided by American children and contain little presents for their peers in Armenia. Head of the ASRC Youth Department–Katarina Vardanian said that the presents are mostly intended for orphans.

She reported that the boxes of friendship were distributed among orphanages in a number of Armenian regions. In Gyumri the presents were distributed among schools and before December 20 they will be delivered to the local orphanage. Vardanian also pointed out that before December 20–ASRC volunteers will organize the benevolent action "A visit to the Gyumri orphanage." During the action the children will receive warm clothes–toys and sweets. Orphanages in Gavar–Vanadzor–Yerevan–and the Ararat region will also be involved in the program.

According to Vardanian–concerts and other festive arrangemen’s will be organized in all seven orphanages in Armenia on December 23-28. She added that similar arrangemen’s are expected to be organized in old people’s homes and refugee hostels.
