ArmenTel Has Fulfilled A Quarter of Its Investment Obligations

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–ArmenTel must invest a total of $100 million by March 3–2000. As of December 8–the company has invested $25 million–Minister of Post and Telecommunications Ruben Tonoyan announced at a parliament meeting.

According to the minister–if the company fails to carry out its obligations by March–then the company will be given an ultimatum by the Armenian side to carry out its obligations within six months.

The minister believes that ArmenTel will live up to its commitmen’s–otherwise–he said–we will have no communications. The quality of communications in provinces outside the capital is poor–and the system of cellular communication is inefficient–said the minister. ArmenTel has been officially notified several times to fix these problems–but the company has not fulfilled any of its promises to make improvemen’s–noted the minister.
