Armenian Chess Champions Honored

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–President Robert Kocharian congratulated the men’s chess team on their European titles won in the recent chess tournament in Batumi–Georgia.

"Armenia has provided more proof that it is the world’s leading chess country. This victory of yours belongs to all of us," the President emphasized–expressing hope for more smashing performances of Armenian chess-players to come.

Prospects of chess development were discussed during the meeting. It was said that chess is a popular sport in Armenia with solid foundations.

Armenian Chess Federation President Vanik Zakarian also spoke highly of the performance of Armenian female chess-players in the European championship.
