Ghoukassian Summarizes Visit to France USA

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–At a working meeting with the Nagorno Karabakh Parliament and government members December 11–Karabakh President Arkady Ghoukassian presented the results of his latest visit to the US and France as well as the results of the All Armenia Fund Telethon 99.

Attending the meeting were Speaker of the Karabakh National Assembly Oleg Yesayan and Prime Minister Anushavan Danielian.

Highly appreciating Diaspora’s involvement in the fund-raising efforts–Ghoukassian stressed that the achieved success can be considered the first step towards a stable and secure Karabakh. He expressed optimism that the Diaspora will be actively involved in overcoming Karabakh’s economic problems in the future as well. The Karabakh president said that American Armenia’s are currently considering programs of large investmen’s in the tiny republic.

Ghoukassian then addressed a new policy of establishing law and order and the current situation in the country and answered the meeting participants’ questions.

During the meeting a group of deputies issued a provoking statement. After considering the facts presented by Ghoukassian and his commen’s–deputy Sargssian–who is one of the authors of the statement–pointed out that the deputies should have been informed of these facts beforehand–in which case it wouldn’t have been necessary for the statement to be issued at all.

Most of the deputies did not second the statement.

In the aforementioned statement 13 deputies express their concern "over the current situation in the country’s domestic political life and its consequences–which are getting worse and worse day by day."

According to them–"as one of the spokesmen of the Artsakh people’s will–the Karabakh president is involuntarily playing a destabilizing role instead of taking steps towards establishing stability in the country–recovering the destroyed economy–strengthening the defense capability and raising the population’s living standards. The law-enforcement agencies must also have their say about crimes which have been or are being exposed."
