Prime Minister Calls for Closer Relations With Britain

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–"The friendship between Armenia and Great Britain has a rich background–which played a positive role in establishing close and warm relations between the two nations after Armenia gained independence," Prime Minister Aram Sargsyan said on December 23 during his meeting with British Ambassador to Armenia Timothy Jones.

The Prime Minister congratulated the diplomat on his new mission.

Jones said he was a witness to how independent Armenia cleared up the difficulties arising from the tragic events of October 27. He offered his deepest condolences to the Armenian Prime Minister on this tragedy. The Ambassador hopes that his diplomatic mission will pave the way for stronger relations between the two countries. Jones declared his government’s concern with the region’s peace and stability and readiness to promote its further development.

Sargsyan attached importance to Armenia’s integration into European structures. He also called for developing bilateral relations within European structures. Both sides stressed the importance of cooperating in the economic sphere. The Armenian Prime Minister said the grand forum to attract investmen’s to Armenia due to be held in London next fall would greatly contribute to Armenia’s economic development.
