KZV Creates ANCHA Endowment Fund

SAN FRANCISCO–The finance committee of Krouzian-Zekarian-Vasbouragan (KZV) Armenian School has announced the establishment of an endowment to be known as the George M. Mardikian and Suren M. Saroyan ANCHA Memorial Endowment Fund.

KZV School received a grant of $80,000 in the third and final distribution of ANCHA funds. It is the largest single grant made by the board of directors of ANCHA to Armenian schools throughout California. The annual income generated from this endowment will be used exclusively for tuition assistance scholarships to needy Armenian students.

The check for $80,000 was presented to the KZV school finance committee by Mary Koobation–Mardikian’s niece on behalf of Doris Saroyan Rodrigo–daughter of ANCHA co-founder Suren M. Saroyan–and the board of directors of ANCHA.

The fund honors the memory of the two co-founders and the humanitarian organization they established in San Francisco in 1947 and named it the American National Committee to Aid Homeless Armenia’s or ANCHA. ANCHA facilitated the relocation of more than 5,000 Armenia’s from forced labor camps in Germany–Austria–and Italy following the end of World War II.

Contributions to the endowment fund in memory of the founders and ANCHA may be sent to KZV Armenian School–825 Brotherhood Way–San Francisco–CA 94132. Checks should be made payable to KZV School and marked "ANCHA."
