Archbishop Named in IranPatriarch

TEHRAN (Reuters)–Syrian-born Sebu Sarkissian has been named as the new Armenian archbishop of Tehran–Iranian newspapers reported on Saturday.

They said a high Armenian council had chosen Sarkissian–born in 1946–to succeed Archbishop Ardak Manoukian who died in October aged 69.

Sarkissian will arrive in Tehran on Monday from Lebanon to lead Iran’s 200,000-strong Armenian Christian community–church sources said.
