YEREVAN (Armenpress–Noyan Tapan)–Armenian president Robert Kocharian Tuesday issued a decree to award posthumously the late prime minister of Armenia Vazgen Sargsyan and parliament speaker Karen Demirchian the highest rank of National Hero of Armenia for their service to the homeland–reported the presidential press office.
Both men and other six key officials were killed in the parliament building on October 27 after a gang of armed terrorists burst into the building and assassinated.
Taking into account the merits of Karen Demirchian–president Kocharian also issued another decree to name one of the streets in the capital after him and dedicate a monument on the same street. By another decree one of the streets in the capital will bear the name of Vazgen Sargsyan and a dedicated monument will also be set up there.
Also the military institute and a stadium in the capital will be named after Vazgen Sargsyan. The Yerevan Subway and the Sport and Concert Complex will be named after Karen Demirchian.
The other six officials–killed during the attack–were awarded the 1st degree Battle Cross–Anania Shirakatsi and Movses Khrorenatsi medals. They will also have roads in Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh renamed in their memory.
Under another decree–additional monthly financial assistance will be rendered to the widows and underage children of the victims.
