Iran Armenia Call for Expansion of Bilateral TiesArmenian

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan–Tehran Times)–Iran’s acting Ambassador to Yerevan–Mohammed Farhad Koleini–met with Armenian prime minister Aram Sargsyan and Armenian Parliament Speaker Armen Khachatrian in the Armenian capital early this week.

"Aram Sargsyan’s appointment as Armenian prime minister strengthens our confidence that Armenia will continue following the policy pursued by Vazgen Sargsyan and Karen Demirchian," Koleini said at his meeting with Aram Sargsyan Tuesday.

Koleini handed the Armenian prime minister Iranian vice-president Hasan Khabibi’s message of congratulations on the occasion of the New Year and expressed optimism that Armenia will begin the new year with new successes and achievemen’s. The Iranian diplomat officially invited the Armenian prime minister to visit Iran.

Addressing the economic cooperation–Koleini pointed out that there are many real projects–in particular in the energy and communication spheres–which can be put into practice on condition of active work. He pointed out the importance of the Armenian-Iranian Intergovernmental Economic Commission’s activities.

Prime Minister Aram Sargsyan accepted the invitation and stressed his firm determination to follow the policy of his late brother Vazgen and late speaker Demirchian. He pointed out the necessity for expanding Armenian-Iranian cooperation. The sides also underlined the need for developing bilateral economic relations.

Monday’s meeting between Koleini and Khachatrian called for further expansion of bilateral ties–particularly in the area of economy.

The latest regional and international developmen’s were also discussed by the two officials. The two sides also called for Tehran-Yerevan cooperation in order to help preserve regional peace and security. Briefing Koleini on his country’s domestic situation and the terrorist act in the Armenian Parliament–Khachatrian said that stability and security have been established in the country through unity of all political parties.

All the current developmen’s are being made within the framework of the country’s Constitution–he added. The Iranian official again expressed his regret over the sad terrorist act and called for restoration of stability and security to the country.
