Tbilisi Yerevan Railroad Blocked By Local Residents

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–A group of Georgian residents were blocking the section of the Tbilisi-Yerevan railroad adjacent to Tbilisi from 2 to 8 p.m. on January 27 when a train heading for Yerevan was to leave. The locals were protesting to try to draw the authorities’ attention to the electricity supply problems in their districts. Following negotiations with railroad officials and transport police the demonstrators ended the protest. Officials in Tbilisi promised to solve their problems quickly.

An Armenian delegation returning from the 8th economic forum of the OSCE–including officials–NGO and mass media representatives–were on the train to witness the manifestation.
