YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–The Kocharian-Aliyev meeting in Davos resulted in "some positive changes–but we cannot yet speak of any considerable progress," Presidential Spokesman Vahe Gabrielian told a news briefing late last week. Gabrielian reported that no agreement has been reached on any particular scheme. Although Kocharian advanced two new general proposals–no agreement has yet been reached.
Responding to the question–"If no proposals have been reached–how then has the `Meghri scheme’ fallen into the mass media’s hands?"–Gabrielian said–"You should be better informed of how the schemes fall into the hands of the mass media." The matter concerns the articles according to which–during their meeting in Davos–the Armenian and Azerbaijani presidents discussed the possibility of Azerbaijan’s granting independence to Nagorno Karabakh in exchange for a part of the Meghri region of Armenia to enable Azerbaijan to have direct land communication with Nahijevan.
