Lawyer Quits But Is Still Sure of His Client’s Innocence

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–As was earlier reported–Deputy Acting Director of the National Television of Armenia Haroutiun Haroutiunian refused to have Zhora Khachatrian as his lawyer and invited Ruben Rshtuni as his new defender. Talking to Noyan Tapan–Zhora Khachatrian said that they had parted according to a mutual agreement. It involves personal problems which the lawyer did not care to make public.

Khachatrian rejected the assumption alleging his belief of his client’s guilt. He stressed that he was sure of Haroutiunian’s innocence. "I reiterate that the investigation body has no convincing evidence of Haroutiunian’s involvement in the October 27 events; neither will it get any in the future–as Haroutiunian actually had nothing to do with the events," Khachatrian underlined.

Khachatrian is sure that the change of lawyers will not tell on the overall defense–"as Haroutiunian’s defense is above all ensured by his being innocent." Besides–according to the lawyer–Ruben Rshtuni is one of the lawyers whom he would strongly recommend for Haroutiunian’s defense.
