Sargsyan Delivers Speech About Economy

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–"The atmosphere of confidence is the core of economy," Prime Minister Aram Sargsyan said during the meeting of the Board of the "Yerkrapah" Union of Volunteers held in Tsaghkadzor on February 5.

It is necessary to get rid of the atmosphere of animosity and suspiciousness that originated in the aftermath of the October 27 tragedy in order to develop the economy.

"There will be no changes in the country until positive charges set in at all halls–including this one," the premier said.

The prime minister believes that the exposure of the October 27 crime will promote the formation of an atmosphere of confidence.

Otherwise–nothing will be possible to change–he repeated–expressing confidence that this heinous crime–unlike the series of assassinations of high-ranking officials over the past two years–will be unraveled.

Aram Sargsyan added that one of the main reasons that motivated his consent to take up premiership was the very necessity of uncovering the crime of October 27. At the same time he pointed out that he did not want to get acquainted with the materials of the investigation not to influence its course and to avoid "a negative charge." The press is the only sphere where any interference is excluded–he added.

Sargsyan stressed the need for legislative changes to improve the economic situation in the country. Speaking of the business atmosphere and the discontent of entrepreneurs with ministers–the premier stated that he was well aware of their work and had an idea of all the shortcomings and advantages and in this sense "it is impossible to push any paper through him."

The premier called on businessmen to submit concrete proposals instead of simply complaining about "the bad state of affairs". "The one who knows how to save the motherland and does not want to share this knowledge is a traitor," he concluded. Aram Sargsyan promised that all personnel changes will be transparent–however–according to him–the situation cannot be improved through personnel changes alone. "I would rather use the term "people" than "personnel"," the premier noted.
