Lake Sevan Polluted With Copper And Oil Derivatives

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan). The level of pollution of rivers and lakes of Armenia has dropped a little–according to the date suggested by the Ministry of Nature Protection. A high degree of pollution was revealed only once. In the Hrazdan river contamination with nitrite 12 times exceeded the highest admissible norm; and in the vicinity of the Sevan Peninsular pollution with ions of copper exceeded the highest admissible norm 32 times and with oil derivatives 90 times.

Ions of copper constituted the basic component of pollution also in other waters of Armenia. Oil derivatives were also revealed in the Hrazdan river. Besides these compounds–another widespread contamination was caused by ions of ammonium–which were found in the rivers Debet and Gavar.
