TEHRAN (Combined Sources)–The Armenian community of Iran turned out in unprecedented numbers to elect its two representatives to the Islamic Republic’s parliament–choosing Dr. Levon Davitian and Georgik Abrahamian as the northern and southern representatives–respectively.
Davitian garnered 16,062 of the 23,108 votes cast in his election–and Abrahamian was declared winner with 2,821 votes of the 4,317 ballots cast in his district.
Outgoing parliamentarians Vartan Vartanian and Ardavazad Baghoumian released a joint congratulatory statement to the newly-elected representatives–also praising the Iranian-Armenian community’s resolve in taking part in the democratic process of that country.
The Prelacy of Northern Iranian Armenian Apostolic Church also congratulated the new parliamentarians of the Armenian community.
