Linguistic School System to Be Introduced in Armenia

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–A system of thorough study of foreign languages–including the Russian language–is expected to be introduced in Armenia–Head of the State Language Inspection Levon Galstian said.

He pointed out that the concept of establishing schools with linguistic bias has been elaborated and approved by the Armenian government.

The program provides for an increase in the number of hours assigned for lessons in Russian and other languages. 1Despite contradictions to the law under which Armenian is the official teaching-language–Galstian believes such an approach can be regarded as a means of teaching languages. He also pointed out the importance of highly-experienced teachers–availability of manuals and other teaching aids. Improving Armenian language curriculum was also discussed.
