YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–On March 9–Chairman of the Presidential Human Rights Commission Paruyr Hairikian and several members of the same Commission visited where Alexan Harutiunian–Harutiun Harutiunian and Nairi Hunanian ,all arrested in connection with the October 27 case–are being kept.
In an interview–Hairikian stated that at present the conditions of the accused are good. At the same time–he stressed that they previously had reason to complain. The members of the Commission are also going to visit other prisoners.
The visit was connected with the challenging statement of Harutiun Harutiunian addressed to the Prosecutor General’s Office on March 8. Hairikian underlined that his convoy was not inclined to jump to conclusions–but intended to meet with representative of the opposite side.
Hairikian explained that they had not inquired about the particulars of the case–since the Commission was primarily interested in the possibility of torture and other possible deviations from the proper investigatory process.
