ROME (AP)–Rome urged Italy on Thursday to block Turkey’s entry into the European Union until Turkey acknowledges wrongdoing in the early 20th-century killings of Armenia’s.
The resolution–unanimously approved by Rome’s city council–also urges Italy to formally call the killings a genocide.
Turkey wants to become a member of the European Union. The EU accepted it as a candidate last year but has made membership conditional–in part on improvemen’s in Turkey’s human rights record.
