10 000 Protest French Senate Genocide Rejection

PARIS (Asbarez)–An estimated 10,000 French-Armenia’s demonstrated Saturday at the French Senate in protest of that body’s refusal to address a resolution recognizing the Armenian Genocide. Joining French Armenia’s at the protest were groups of Greeks–Kurds and Cypriots.

The demonstration was organized by the Genocide Commemoration Committee and the Armenian National Committee of France.

Representatives of the French Communist–Green and Right-wing parties attended the protest and in statemen’s said that they had lobbied the Senate for the inclusion of this measure. The party leaders pledged that they will continue this effort and ensure that the issue will become part of the agenda when the appropriate Senate subcommittee meets on March 21.

The organizers announced that Senate president Christian Ponselet is scheduled to meet with representatives of the French-Armenian community Wednesday. The Armenian delegation will present a petition urging the Senate to consider the Genocide resolution.
