Armenian Georgian Officials Discuss Bilateral Issues in Tbilisi

YEREVAN (Armenpress)–Armenian government members discussed bilateral issues with their Georgian counterparts on the sideline of TRACECA inter-government commission’s session held in Tbilisi.

Particularly–the issue of cargo transportation tariffs to be paid to the Georgian railway by Armenian companies was discussed. According to a previously reached agreement–Armenian companies are given a 25% discount which is effective until July 1. The Armenian side proposed to increase the discount to 50%.

Armenian transport and communication minister Robert Nazarian said TRACECA project’s member countries will be given a 50% discount for shipping their goods through TRACECA corridor.

The two sides also considered the restoration of the Bagratashen-Marneuli highway. An oral agreement was reached that the restoration will be earmarked in the Georgian budget.

Another important issue discussed referred to Georgia’s repayment of its energy debt to Armenia which is currently around $4.2 million. The sides agreed to work out a gradual repayment schedule.

At the end of the visit–Armenian prime minister Aram Sargsyan met with Georgian president Eduard Shevardnadze to discuss prospects for the development of Armenian-Georgian relations.
