IMF Concerned Over Pace of Economic Reforms in Armenia

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Monday’s meeting between President of Armenia Robert Kocharian and Vice-Director of the Second European Division of the International Monetary Fund Thom Wolf focused on the economic situation in Armenia and the course of reforms.

The IMF official presented his observations regarding the current tendencies towards economic growth and macroeconomic showings. Speaking of the current problems–he expressed concern over the pace of reforms–the course of privatization and the level of tax collection.

"The policy of reforms has no alternative and the launched process will be continued in a consistent manner," Kocharian underlined. At the same time–he singled out everyday studious work as the only way to overcome the current difficulties and move forward at a faster pace.

Also attending the meeting were IMF economist on Armenia John Weikman-Lynn–IMF representative to Armenia George Anayiotis–and other officials.
