Azerbaijan Hopes to Resolve Conflict Through Compromise

YEREVAN (Armenpress)–"The two recent meetings with Armenian President Kocharian assure me to say that all disputable problems between Armenian and Azerbaijan can be solved through compromises–including the resolution of the Karabakh conflict," said Azerbaijani President Haydar Aliyev.

While speaking before the Georgian parliament–Aliyev said that "the regulation of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan is important not only for the two countries–but also for the establishment of peace and stability in the Caucasus."

"The assassination attempt on the life of the President of the unrecognized Karabakh Republic will not change Azerbaijan’s position on the resolution of the Karabakh conflict," Prime News Agency quoted Aliyev.

Aliyev also said that his country will never violate the cease-fire agreement reached by Azerbaijan and Armenia in 1994–and will keep to the principle of non-interference following the attempt on Karabakh President Ghoukassian’s life–as it did in the wake of the last year’s October 27 killings in the Armenian parliament.

He also pointed that the assassination attempt may be followed by undesirable developmen’s–but "the Azeri sides hopes that all problems be settled soon as possible allowing negotiations to continue."
