YEREVAN (Azg)–The Armenian Defense Ministry has defined the role of new deputy ministers recently appointed during an overhaul of the military of president Robert Kocharian.
The newly appointed deputy defense minister Major General Manvel Grigorian will take on the responsibilities once entrusted to the current minister of industrial infrastructures Vahan Shirkhanian. Those duties include the military’s foreign policy and cultivation of military relations with foreign countries.
Furthermore–Grigorian will also be responsible for creation of military law–as well as Armenia’s military industrial complex.
It is expected that Grigorian will face some difficult challenges–especially with staff overhaul in those departmen’s–given the need for diplomatically adept individuals to occupy positions–especially in the context of Armenia’s relations with NATO–the CIS and Russia.
The first test of this new position will come when Grigorian will meet with NATO representatives.
The other departmen’s will be led by General Arthur Aghabegyan–military cadres and staff; Major-General Youry Khatchatourov–military arsenal; while colonel Gourgen Melkonian has been assigned the task of overseeing army logistics.
Defense Minister Vagharshak Harutiunian expressed confidence in his new team and is currently working to further relations.
