YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–The diversity of Armenia’s mining industry was presented at the Mining Millennium 2000 international convention and trade exhibition in Toronto–as well as the ensuing First World Mines Ministries Forum.
The Armenian Embassy in Ottawa was coordinating the participation of the Armenian delegation–in partnership with the Canadian Armenian Business Council of Ontario. This initiative was supported by the Canadian International Development Agency–as well as the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada.
A delegation headed by Deputy Minister of Nature Protection Koryun Hagopian–including the head of Armenia’s Geological Department Robert Dertsian–chief geologist Ruben Movsisian and the Embassy’s commercial officer Hrach Kaspar represented Armenia at the convention.
The Armenian delegation targeted meetings with Canadian mining and geological companies in Toronto–Montreal and Ottawa–during which prospective mining projects were discussed.
To foster future cooperation–the delegation also met with Canadian Mining NGOs and government officials from the Natural Resources Canada Ministry. At the Canadian International Development Agency–the delegation discussed possible technical assistance projects related to Armenia’s mining and environmental sectors. The delegation also made presentations at special events organized by the Canadian Armenian Business Council chapters in Toronto and in Montreal. An information package on prospective mining projects across Armenia–along with general brochures on the country–were distributed at the trade show–and workshops.
