12 Detained On Suspicion of Involvement in Assassination Attempt Released

STEPANAKERT (Noyan Tapan)–"Twelve of the persons detained on suspicion of being involved in the assassination attempt on the Nagorno Karabakh Republic President have been released in view of lack of data substantiating the suspicions," the Karabakh Prosecutor’s Office said in a press release on March 28.

New facts and evidence were revealed during the investigation and another person was arrested–the Prosecutor’s Office said.

Arkady Ghoukassian and his bodyguard Samvel Gabrielian–wounded in last Wednesday’s attack–were successfully operated on the same day by specialists of Yerevan’s Institute of Surgery.

Doctors say the patients have had no post-surgery complications and their recuperation is normal.

Ghoukassian and his bodyguard are undergoing appropriate treatment along with intravenous anti-toxin therapy. Ghoukassian is said to be quite active; he can even stir his injured limbs.

The ambassadors of US and France–Michael Lemmon and Michel Legras–as well as Iranian Embassy officials–visited the Nagorno Karabakh Republic President March 27.
