Karabakh Police Detain Journalist

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–On the night of March 28–Karabakh police officials are reported to have conducted a search without a warrant at the house of Vahram Aghajanian–the staff correspondent of the "Tasnerord Nahang" (Tenth Province) and "Iravunk" (Right) newspapers. They were looking for guns–ammunition and narcotics. Then the police checked the audio and video materials–papers and newspapers kept at the house. The interior officials qualified their action as an "inspection." This information was provided to Noyan Tapan by the Constitutional Right Union.

Aghajanian’s relatives say a protocol was drawn up in the presence of neighbors after the items were found. Then the journalist was invited to the Interior Ministry. He went there accompanied by his sister who was told not to wait for her brother as he would be kept there for a long period.

The editorial office of "Tasnerord Nahang" confirmed the report. Officials have not yet confirmed either the arrest or detention of Aghajanian.
