Karabakh National Assembly Election Law Announced

STEPANAKERT (Noyan Tapan)–Arkady Ghoukassian signed the law on the elections of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic National Assembly deputies–Tuesday–making significant changes to the electoral structures of the republic.

The Karabakh foreign ministry said in a press release that under the new law–the elections will be guided exclusively by the majority system.

It was noted that public and political parties operating in Karabakh have the right to nominate their candidate with a petition of 200 signatures. The candidate’s initiative group must comprise 10 persons. The Karabakh National Assembly will be comprised of 33 deputies. The elections are planned for this summer–however–the exact date has not been set as of yet.
