Benefactor Der Ghazarian Wills $1.3 Million to Organizations

GLENDALE–Benefactor–veteran community activist and Armenian Revolutionary Federation member Dickran Der Ghazarian announced that he will bequeath his entire to Armenian organizations.

The announcement was made at a gathering Thursday evening–honoring Der Ghazarian–organized by the Armenian Cultural Foundation–the Western Prelacy and the Homenetmen Regional Executive.

The 92-year-old Der Ghazarian–a survivor of the Genocide–and his late wife Zarouhi devoted their entire life to the advancement of the Armenian Cause and extended their financial and moral assistance to the community.

At the Thursday gathering–Der Ghazarian’s long-time friend and legal counsel Seto Boyadjian informed the public of the benefactors wishes to bequeath:

* $350,000 endowment fund to the Armenian Cultural Foundation–the interest from which may be utilized;

* $350,000 endowment fund to the Homenetmen Western Regional Executive;

* $225,000 to the Prelacy building fund. The new building’s hall will be named in honor of the Der Ghazarians;

* $200,000 to the Armenian National Committee of America

* His residence valued at $175,000 will be placed in trust following his death–to the Western Prelacy–and its interest to be transferred to the Mesrobian and Ferrahian Armenian schools.

At the banquet ARF Western US Central Committee chairman Hovig Saliba–ACF president Neshan Peroomian–Homenetmen Regional Executive chairman Manuel Marselian and Executive Director of the ANCA-WR Vicken Sonentz-Papazian praised Der Ghazarian for his dedication to the Armenian community and the cause.

Following his remarks–Saliba presented Der Ghazarian with a set of commemorative gold coins minted on the occasion of the party’s 100th anniversary.

Following his message of praise–Western Prelate Bishop Moushegh Mardirossian read a congratulatory encyclical from His Holiness Aram I–Catholicos of the Holy See of Cilcia–who awarded Der Ghazarian the "Cilician Knight" medal for his community service.

In conclusion–Der Ghazarian humbly thanked the community–with a special mention to his friend and counsel Seto Boyadjian. At the end of his remarks–Der Ghazarian commented that it is more rewarding for community members to be commended during their lifetime–rather than posthumously.
