Azerbaijan Wants Stability Says Aliyev

YEREVAN (Armenpress)–Azerbaijan is interested in the stability and progress of economic reforms in Russia–Azeri President Heydar Aliyev said on Friday during meeting with Russian Deputy Prime Minister and Emergency Minister Sergei Shoigu.

Aliyev said he supports the anti-guerrilla operation in the North Caucasus. "It is inadmissible to let Russia be torn into pieces." If a decent rebuff is not given to separatists–"it will activate centrifugal forces" and "have irreversible consequences."

Russia must serve as an example for other CIS member states–Aliyev said. It is instrumental in making the Commonwealth of Independent States more effective and free of regional conflicts.

Aliyev said Azerbaijan’s main task is to find a peaceful settlement with Armenia.
