Italian Parliament Begin Genocide Recognition Talks

ROME–The Italian parliament Monday began discussion of a bill to recognize the Armenian Genocide.

The Ankara-based Turkiye newspaper reported that the resolution was authored and introduced by Giancarlo Paliarini and has garnered the support of 136 of his fellow parliament members.

During Monday’s parliament session–Paliarini and fellow Firza party member Nikolini said that the Armenian Genocide must be recognized by the Italian parliament.

Following discussion–the matter did not go to a vote–however–sources said that the vote may come as early as Thursday.

Paliarini announced that he was scheduled to meet with the parliament speaker Tuesday and urge him to take the matter to a vote as soon as possible.
