Japanese Government to Grant $5 Million for Medical Center

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–The Japanese government will grant 518 million yen (about $5 million) to Armenia to fit out the "Armenia" republican medical center with modern medical equipment. The agreement on the implementation of the program was signed on April 3 by Japanese Embassy Counselor Norikhito Sone and Armenia’s Deputy Minister of Health and Social Welfare Razmik Martirossian.

The Japanese government has been in cooperation with Armenia ever since 1992. If implemented–the program will enable 10-14 thousand people to avail themselves of high-quality services at the "Armenia" center–Martirossian said. According to the deputy minister–several similar programs are in effect in Armenia today; the more programs of this type are launched–the greater will be the competition in this field–which will have a positive effect.

It became clear that for lack of certain medical instrumen’s–the "Armenia" center sometimes proves unable to make a comprehensive diagnosis and provided patients with full treatment. To bridge the gap–the Armenian government had developed the mentioned program and asked its Japanese counterpart to render financial assistance in the matter.
