YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Sweden will promote Armenia’s membership in the World Trade Organization and the Council of Europe in every way possible–Swedish Ambassador to Armenia Sven Girdman (residing in Moscow) said during his June 9 meeting with Armenia’s Foreign Minister Vardan Oskanian.
The sides are reported to have praised the current level of relations between the two countries–stressing the need for expanding the legal framework particularly by adopting laws regarding investment protection and avoidance double taxation. They also praised the two countries’ cooperation within international organizations.
A number of issues regarding the ongoing processes in the South Caucasus were also touched upon during the meeting. Minister Oskanian presented the current stage of the Karabakh peace process. The diplomat assured Oskanian that Sweden as a country that is to chair the European Union starting next year will be promoting a peaceful solution to the Karabakh conflict as far as possible.
