YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–On June 16–the Armenian radio station "Radio Armenia" in Uruguay will mark its anniversary–a record 65 years on the air. There is no other radio station in the world which has been on the air for such a long period without interruptions.
The "Radio Armenia" station played a great role in the establishment and development of Armenian-Uruguayan relations. Under the direction of the founder and director of the station–Harutiun Rubenian–and–after his death in 1993–owing to the efforts of his wife Araksya Rubenian and his sons Perch and Aram–"Radio Armenia," in addition to its information and cultural activities–launched large-scale benevolent activities–assisting not only Armenia and the Armenian community in Uruguay–but also many needy people in other parts of South America. The local authorities sympathize with these activities.
The 65th anniversary of the "Radio Armenia" station will be solemnly celebrated. On June 12–at the Big Hall of Montevideo–the Uruguayan Philharmonic Orchestra will perform Aram Khachatrian’s "Masquerade." On June 16–outstanding art workers of the Armenian community in Uruguay will give concerts–and on June 22 at the Sheraton hotel a reception will be held with the participation of the country’s top officials.
