Humanitarian Aid for Children Reaches Armenia

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Humanitarian goods arrived in Armenia from Moscow July 5 for children living in the earthquake zone. The assistance is rendered by a public organization – Moscow-based Center of Armenian youth.

Head of the Center Narine Papian said that it was the first benevolent action of the center. The center established by young Moscow-based Armenia’s has been mainly engaged in the issues of maintaining the national culture and traditions so far being involved in the joint activities with other national communities of Moscow. The decision to help the children of the disaster area was made after the center had organized a display of films on today’s Armenia. It was decided not to apply to any sponsor but to try to do everything by one’s own efforts. Thus–the aid included different articles – clothes–shoes–photo apparatuses–note-books–writing papers and many other things–the total weight being 500 kg. The funds for hauling and shipment were received from a charity concert called "Day of protection of Armenian children" organized by the center June 11 with the participation of Russian variety singers Soso Pavliashvili and others. In Armenia–the Ministry of Social Welfare promotes the hauling of the goods. Narine Papian said that the Armenian youth of Moscow were striving to maintain their culture and language. The Youth center entered the recently organized Union of Armenia’s of Russia in order to support the unification of Armenia’s of the Russian diaspora into one force organically connected to its historical homeland.
